The Rohingya were stripped of their Burmese citizenship in 1982. Many have fled to Bangladesh to become unrecognized refugees living in makeshift refugee camps. Although the Rohingya arrived in northwest Burma as early as the 9th century, they are not recognized as one of 135 indigenous races in Burma and it is virtually impossible for them to gain citizenship in Bangladesh so they are illegal immigrants in both countries. “Exiled to Nowhere” by Greg Constantine provides a look into the lives of the Rohingya exiled from Burma with nowhere to go.
